BE A GOOD SPORT

be-a-good-sport

In keeping with the spirit of making memories through fashion, let’s flash back for a minute.

It was 1998 and I was just about to start Junior High School- aka the first fashion phase in life I look back on with a gigantic cringe (shout out to the Delia*s for the killer wardrobe ideas! NOT). I was dealing with all of the usual nerves that tend to present themselves when navigating a pretty big life transition, but more than anything I felt excited. Excited for a bigger school, new friends, and the freedom to begin defining the soon-to-be-teenager I wanted to be.  I wanted that girl to be funny, social, smart and someone ready to start crafting out her own personal identity. And what goes hand-in-hand with establishing a new sense of self? Making your own choices about fashion.

So why, for Pete’s sake, I decided that girl needed to cut her own bangs, wear white sporty knee socks and Adidas tear-away pants with spaghetti strap tank tops every.single.day. is a question I will never have the answer to.

Yes, I played sports (but mostly for the social aspect- let’ s be honest here) and yes, I grew up with brothers, but what was I thinking?! So. Wear am I now? Giving myself a hard pass on the utter inability to understand sportswear as an acceptable trend at the age of 13, but thankful (mostly for everyone who has to see me in person on a daily basis), I was somehow able to successfully execute this trend as an adult.

This fall, sports-inspired pieces are an absolute home-run for me. It’s the little details- a racing stripe or a drawstring waist- that make this trend approachable and acceptable as a 30-something who doesn’t want to look like she borrowed her husband’s Red Sox t-shirt. My current winner is this silky-track skirt from the Who What Wear Collection for Target. But in honor of that sporty-spice wannabe pre-teen still somewhere within, I’m rounding up my favorite sports-inspired fashion finds for fall. No strike-outs here, ladies.
