YOU HAD ME AT YELLOW

you-had-me-at-yellow

If I had a dollar for every time I texted one of my friends “I’m wearing a really aggressive pair of pants” before meeting up, I’d be (to quote my friend Danielle who usually is on the receiving end of these texts) “a thousandaire.” I’m a big believe in the life’s too short to wear boring clothes, mantra. This, coming from a woman who as a child, used to wear Stride Rite tennis shoes in two different colors to match my outfit, is not surprising.

I once took a color psychology class in college- yes, that was a real class- where we analyzed the meaning of hues: what they stand for and what we’re trying to convey when we wear them. It’s something I tend to reflect upon when I’m getting dressed, though I personally feel that choice in color more often than not is our attempt at matching whats on our insides to our outsides. Let’s say you’re in a good mood or are feeling fun and playful, you’re probably going to be more apt to grab something colorful out of your closet. If you’re feeling down, muted colors may be your weapon of choice. Maybe you want to stand out, so you pick a bright pattern. Or maybe you want to blend in, so neutrals become that day’s palette.

What I can cop to, is leaning more toward bright shades as soon as the season changes. Even if the weather isn’t exactly cooperating (I’m looking at you, 2018), I’m still drawn to bold hues in the hopes of conjuring that feeling of Spring. And in that vein, one of my favorite trends this season is printed and bright/colorful pants. It’s a fun alternative to your everyday run-of-the-mill denim and can be easily dressed up or down. Not to mention, they put me in a good mood and give me reason to send “Obnoxious pants coming your way!” texts to my best gals.

These Slim Tie Waist Pant in Marisa Fit from LOFT are #1 on my list right now. I paired them with my trusty Adidas, my Ramones T-Shirt (previously worn here), and my vintage Jeanette for St. Martin jacket (snagged at the Somerville Flea).
